This introductory class starts by laying a strong foundation starting with building hunt drive and quickly switching over to imprinting odor. Anise, clove and birch will be the odors used. Back chaining will be used by rewarding the dog (nose) as close to source as possible and then building the search picture. Markers and reward mechanics will be introduced and developed. Scent theory will be discussed. Skills and challenges will be introduced as the class progresses each week. Note: To develop and maintain a strong foundation moving forward, students should be prepared to practice with their dog in between classes. Dogs do attend the first class. The first class includes answering general questions, discussing equipment needs, starting hunt games, using markers and reward mechanics. Week two exercises will be discussed.
