Intro to Scent Work (AKC®) Level 3, Tuesdays, 2 PM

This class will introduce odor(s) used in Scent Work.  This level builds on all of the foundation exercises done in Level 1 and 2 but with odor. Typically, the first target odor (Birch) is used for the term of this class.  The concept of pairing is introduced to condition the dog to odor and to develop good sourcing through self-reward.  Searches may expand to include other rooms or outdoors. At a minimum, birch odor will be needed for the Intro to SW / Odor, Level 3. Links to approved sources will be provided in class. This class will be held at the Star City Training Building, 1860 Apperson Drive, Salem, VA 24153.

Prerequisites:  Intro to Scent work, Level 2 must be completed prior to this class. Dogs must be able to stay quiet in a crate and/or in their vehicle in-between their turns.

Notes:  Maximum of 8 students.

Vaccination Records (required)

If this is the first time your dog is attending one of our classes (or if your records may be out of date), you MUST supply your dog’s proof of up-to-date vaccination (Rabies and DHPP). Please upload your records now (be sure they have your name and dog’s name printed on the record) or bring them to the first class. Your vaccination records MUST be on file with us before you are permitted to participate in class.

Notes About Classes and Fees

1) SCCTC will notify you via email when your registration has been received. 2) Your registration is not confirmed until we receive payment (via PayPal or check). If you are paying by check you MUST bring a check to the first class (SCCTC charges a $35 fee for all returned checks). Make checks payable to: SCCTC. 3) You will receive an email from the Instructor at least 2 days prior to the first class with any particulars about what to bring, appropriate type of collar/leash, etc. 4) Unless notified otherwise, for “Puppy” and “Beginner 1” classes, the first class is for handlers only; dogs should not come until the second class. 5) After the first week of class with dogs, refunds are not available without the prior approval of appropriate Chair (Obedience, Agility or Scent Sports) or the Training Director.

Understand that we are responsible for the dogs and any visitors actions at all times, and that Star City Canine Training Club of Roanoke (“SCCTC”) may dismiss any dog or visitor for aggressive or unruly behavior.
Agree to hold harmless SCCTC, its members, directors, officers, agents, or instructors, and the owner or lessor of the premises in case of any accident, injury, or illness to me, my dog, or any member of my family or visitor, which, in any way, results from or arises out of participation in classes offered or sponsored by SCCTC, or while on (or adjacent to) the premises.
